The Smokey Mountains

We arrived back home just a little bit ago, after spending a long weekend in the Smokey Mountains. We stayed in a cabin that was located about a mile from Gatlinburg, Tennessee. What a lovely weekend we had.

The cabin was built on the side of the mountain. It was a four level home. It had a two level deck, one level came off of two of the bedrooms, and the other one came off of the dining and great room. The cabin was nice, but did need some TLC in some areas.

We shared this seven bedroom cabin with other relatives. There were fourteen of us all together. Randy's cousin Greg and his family, our daughter Ashley and her boyfriend Zach, and Nick, Erin, McKenzie, and Dylan spent the weekend with us. Ashley and Zach had to head back to South Carolina a day early. They had to work today. It was nice to have us all together in one house for a few days at the same time!

On Saturday we drove up in to the mountains so that some could hike up to the top to view and take pictures of the mountains. We were not prepared for how cold it was going to be up there! What a difference in temperature from the town to the top of the mountain...!! The traffic was crazy there all weekend too. I think many people decided to visit Gatlinburg for Labor Day weekend.

Sunday, after Ashley and Zach left, part of our group headed up the mountain again. This time we were going to visit Cades Cove. I had only thought this would be a few hours venture like the previous day. I surely was wrong. We left around 12:30 p.m. and did not return to the cabin until 7:30 p.m. Most of the time was spent in the truck driving or being stuck in traffic is more like it!

Nick and his family had decided to go in to town to the aquarium. They sure were smart for doing that. They got to spend time in town more than we did. We seemed to make it there later in the evening for dinner. By then we were so tired that we ate and returned back to the cabin. We really needed one more day there!

It was a nice trip, but I was ready to come home. We all seemed to be tired and grouchy this last day. Not sure why. I guess we needed more sleep. Tomorrow will be back to the real world and getting back to work. Before we do that, we need to pick up our dogs. I did not like coming home to a house without my best friends.

Enjoy some additional photos I am posting. These are photos of the cabin inside and out....

Happy Labor Day!!
